Seeing your Practice! 15/09/21
In this session we talked around the question ‘What is my Practice?’. Honestly, I think I have put off writing this because I still feel a bit confused/overwhelmed! My first thought of ‘my practice’ would be my discipline, so I assumed I would be focusing on Acting. But as zoom call went on, I realised there are so many different areas to look at when thinking about it. But I guess this is what modular 1 is about. Reflecting and understanding my practice.
We were first
asked to look at ourselves. What is it in my life that helps me to develop into
the person and I am. What attributes do I have that contribute to my practice? (From
what I understood our practice revolves around our everyday life), So I thought
about my life I am a mother, a performer, a sales assistant, and a teacher. Each
title I have helps me to bring different skill to another.
-
Time
Management
-
Preparation
-
Communication
-
Confidence
-
Compassion
-
Patience
These attributes
I may have learned in one job, but I have then used them in all aspects of my life.
These are my ‘Areas of Learning’.
Another topic
of the zoom call was ‘Inspiration Maps’ mapping the field of your practice with
people that inspire you. One person that came into mind for me was a man called
Darren Pritchard! When I tell you, this man has had such an impact on my life. After
having my first child he was the first one to give me a break and bring me back
into the arts. He introduced me to the world of ‘Vogue’ which then opened many
doors for me. I was able to network into a whole other world which created many
opportunities. Watching him work and create is really inspiring and special to
see.
I’m going to
have another read through the handbook and see if I can gain a better
understanding of everything and I hopefully I won’t feel to overwhelmed next
time. ๐
Hi Kamille,
ReplyDeleteWow what a lovely blog post. I can 100% relate to this! What I seem to gather is that most people thought this course was mainly going to be about our discipline. I am also in the grasp of what makes up my life and the skills my everyday life has bought me.
I am also currently going back through the handbook and reading the links the handbook has provided. I have such a better understanding of this course already.
Can't wait to read more of your post.
